Cave-in-Rock Switchgrass is a top choice among all the Switchgrass varieties because of its palatability and disease resistance. Noted for its adaptability to the growing conditions, Cave-in-Rock Switchgrass is found in the more eastern states, especially the high humidity areas. It grows best in years of average rainfall and temperature. Late maturing, it is adapted to both lowland and upland sites, but grows best on fertile, well-drained soils.

Growing & Maintenance Tips

Preferred planting time is spring, until June 30; dormant planting may be done December through February. Recommended planting rate is four to six PLS pounds per acre, if in a pure stand. In seed mixes, switchgrasses should represent the lowest percentage of grasses in the mix.

Interesting Notes

Good palatability and animal gains. More dormant seed than found in 'Blackwell' variety and slow to establish. Original collection of seed from Illinois.
