Little Bluestem was originally the most abundant grass. It normally grows 1-3’ in height. It grows up to about 7,500 ft. in elevation. Starts its growth in the late spring. Little Bluestem has a dense root system and is highly drought resistant. It is favored winter forage in many areas. Leaves become reddish-brown at maturity. It reproduces from tillers, rhizomes as well as seeds.
