Echinacea purpurea

A moderately drought-tolerant, long-lived forb with showy purple to pink blossoms. There is a characteristic “cone” at the center of the flower, from which its name is derived. Purple Coneflower was one of the most important medicinal plants used by Native Americans, and is today commonly used in herbal remedies to boost immune functions and for various ailments. It can be found at elevations up to 8,000 ft.
