Yarrow, Western (Achillea millefolium occidentalis)

Western Yarrow is one of the most widely distributed forbs in the western United States. Both Western and White Yarrow have white clustered flowers, however White Yarrow is a naturalized, more aggressive species. Both are very drought tolerant and are excellent choices for reclamation on disturbed soils. Because of its aggressive nature it should be planted with other species, and can also be transplanted successfully. Yarrow can grow from 12-36” in height and can be found in elevations from 5,000-11,000 feet. Blooms spring to fall and the feather, fernlike leaves are distinctly pungent.
