From southern Eurasia, Forage Kochia sub-shrub that has been seeded in the western United States for many years on semiarid locations receiving 5”-27” of precipitation annually. The lower one-third of the plant remains green and succulent year around. It is most commonly used for standing fall and winter forage. Plants are 1-3’ tall and may live up to 15 years. Forage Kochia should not be confused with its weedy relative, Kochia scoparia, which is an annual. Forage Kochia performs better if planted in the fall. It can be found at elevations up to 7,000 ft.
